When I think about what sets Mutual of America apart as a retirement services provider, the enduring clarity of our purpose immediately comes to mind.
In 1945, Mutual of America Financial Group (then known as the National Health & Welfare Retirement Association) was founded by an exceptional group of business leaders who were dedicated to supporting the nonprofit social sector and believed that every worker deserves a financially secure and dignified retirement.
For nearly 80 years, we have remained committed to providing the tools and resources workers need to take control of their finances so they can meet today’s challenges and achieve tomorrow’s dreams. But our dedication to making a difference in the lives of our customers doesn’t end with the high-quality retirement plans and outstanding services we provide to them. Our strong sense of social responsibility is evident in the ways in which we proudly give back to the diverse communities across America where we live and work.
As Mutual of America’s commitment to uplifting the lives of Americans across all walks of life continues, I am proud to welcome Sara Wiencken in her new role as Vice President of Philanthropic Relations. Sara, who joined Mutual of America nearly 13 years ago, most recently served as Regional Vice President in charge of our local sales and service operations in Indiana and Kentucky. She will be working closely with Lisa Loughry, Chair of the Mutual of America Foundation, to deepen and grow our partnerships and to engage with nonprofit social sector organizations that are working to effect positive change in communities across the country.
Sara will also play a key role in helping us create more opportunities to expand the impact of the Mutual of America Foundation Community Partnership Award. Created in 1996, the Community Partnership Award annually honors nonprofit organizations that, in partnership with the public and private sectors, are creating innovative programs to address systemic and other barriers that prevent members of their local communities from accessing the opportunities and services they need to thrive. Today, the Community Partnership Award has become one of the most prestigious and coveted national awards in the country.
The importance of its impact can be seen in the Community Partnership Award profiles that follow. As we celebrate the achievements of this year’s six winning partnerships, I am honored to showcase how they are leading the way in helping to improve the lives of individuals and families in their communities.
